Delta Controls is a Canadian company that has designed and manufactured building automation systems since 1987 founded by Raymond Rae and Brian Goodchild who remain active principals in the business.[1][2] It is a well-known brand for Building Automation System,[3][4] with over 300 distributors and serves customers in more than 80 countries.[5][6] The company is headquartered in Surrey, British Columbia, Canada with offices located throughout the world.

History

The roots of Delta Controls can be traced to 1980, when the Energrated Systems Consultants was founded by Raymond Rae and Brian Goodchild to improve the building operations and energy performance.[7][8] They developed first direct digital control systems and they began doing business as Delta Controls which became officially incorporated in 1987.[9] Within two years of incorporation, Delta Controls expanded out of North America and began handelling international projects.[10] In its initial years, the company operated primarily in the commercial, industrial and institutional HVAC markets.[11][12] It developed Intellisys system and products using a proprietary protocol as well as a BACnet line with an open systems protocol. Delta Controls became one of leaders in providing building management controllers that operate on Native BACnet.[13] BACnet is an open communications protocol designed to allow normally disparate systemes to communicate with each other. In the early 2000, the company started working on the web applications and launched ORCAweb, one of the very first web based operator work stations.[14]

Delta Controls was one of the early companies that entered and established office in the China in 2003 and in 2005, opened regional offices in Europe to focus on the European market, followed by an office in Brazil in 2008.[15][16] The company established additional 4,400 square meter manufacturing and warehouse facility to meet the demand. As of 2012, the company had developed a client base in more than 80 countries. In 2012 Delta Controls launched a spin-off company, CopperTree to provide building analytics software to operate buildings more efficiently.[17][18]

Recognition

Delta Controls received the 2009 Best Practices Award from Frost & Sullivan[19] and 2012 AHR Expo Innovation Awards for the DVC-V322PoE BACnet advanced application controller.[20] The company was awarded with top 10 China Building Facilities Control & Management System Awards in 2014. Later in the year, it received Building Automation System of the Year award at the ControlTrends Awards held at AHR in Chicago.[21]

Products and services

The Company started with manufacturing direct digital control systems to integrate HVAC, lighting and access control. Throughout the 1990s, its native BACnet controllers control devices became increasingly popular and provided faster response and higher precision than pneumatics. In 2000, the company launched its web based operator work station product, BACnet with an open systems protocol that can schedule control from a computer.[22] The web based application was one of the first products in the industry that can process a variety of analog and binary inputs and outputs.[23][24][25] In 2010, it launched another web based product, enteliWEB to bring the next generation wireless energy management software. As of 2016, the company produces lighting control, energy management, Facility management, access control,[26] HVAC control and systems, and disparate systems integration products.[27][28][29]

Other Information

Delta Controls is adaptable to the LEED certification process[30] and its HVAC products are certified by UL 864 and UUKL.[31][32]
