The name Demequina derives from:
- New Latin feminine gender noun Demequina, arbitrary name derived from demethylmenaquinone, an unusual quinone found in this organism.[2]

- D. aestuarii ( Yi et al. 2007, (Type species of the genus).;: Latin genitive case noun aestuarii, of a tidal flat, isolated from tidal flat sediment.)[3]
- D. lutea ( Finster et al. 2009, ; Latin feminine gender adjective lutea, yellow.)[4]
- D. salsinemoris ( Matsumoto et al. 2010, ; Latin adjective salsus, salted; Latin noun nemus -oris, wood; New Latin genitive case noun salsinemoris, of a salted wood, isolated from soil of a salted wood, a mangrove.)[5]
