Demetric Untrell Evans (born September 3, 1979 ) is a former professional American football defensive end in the National Football League (NFL), who played for the Dallas Cowboys, the Washington Redskins and the San Francisco 49ers. He played college football at the University of Georgia.
Early years
Evans attended Haynesville High School where he was an All-State football and basketball player. He accepted a scholarship to play for the University of Georgia, becoming a starter until his senior year.[1]
Professional career
Dallas Cowboys
Evans was signed as an undrafted free agent by the Dallas Cowboys in 2001.[2] As a rookie he played in all 16 games as a reserve player, registering 35 tackles and one sack. His playing time decreased in 2002 and was released on August 31, 2003.[3]
Cologne Centurions
In the spring of 2004 after being out of football for a year, Evans played for the Cologne Centurions of NFL Europe, finishing with 24 tackles and 2.5 sacks.
Washington Redskins
On June 16, 2004, he was signed as a free agent by the Washington Redskins.[4] No only did he surprised observers by making the team, but because of different injuries suffered by Phillip Daniels, he played in 12 games (8 starts) at right defensive end, recorded 31 tackles and 2.5 sacks.
He became a core special teams player in the following years, until 2008, when he was the Redskins best defensive end after playing in 16 games (11 starts), also playing defensive tackle on the nickel defense, while finishing tied for second on the team with 3.5 sacks.[5]
San Francisco 49ers
Evans was signed to a two-year, $3.8 million contract by the San Francisco 49ers on March 10, 2009, to play on a 3-4 defense.[6] After being a reserve player for two years, his contract was not renewed.
Personal life
Evans graduated in 2011 from the University of Georgia.[7] He is currently consultant for the National Football League Players Association.
