Dendrobium brevicaudum, common name Mount Finnigan pencil orchid, is a species of orchid endemic to the Queensland, Australia. It has been found slopes of Mount Finnigan south of Cooktown and also on Mount Misery near Ayton. The type population on Mount Flannigan lies inside Ngalba Bulal National Park.[3] The plant grows on rocks and on the branches of trees in rainforest and cloud forest at an altitude of approximate 700 m.[4][5]

Dendrobium brevicaudum is an epiphytic or epilithic herb forming clumps up to 2 m across, the shoots sometimes hanging from the branches of the host tree. It does not produce aerial roots. Leaves are long and narrow, round in cross-section, up to 60 cm long but only 5 mm across. Flowers are borne in axillary racemes of about 4-6 flowers. Each flower is about 4.5 cm across, dull yellow or yellowish-brown, with white, purple and red markings.[4][6]
