The Department of Commercial Taxes and Registration of state of Tamil Nadu is one of the Department of Government of Tamil Nadu

History

Inspectorate General of Registration (Department of Registration) is one of the oldest departments functioning from the year 1865.
This department of Commercial Taxes was formed in the year 1939 to administer the Madras General Sales Tax Act, 1939^[3]

Objective and functions of the Commercial Taxes Department

Effective implementation of the Acts, Rules and other relevant procedures.
Maximisation of revenue collection and thereby contribute to the efforts of the Government to implement the various welfare and

development programmes.

Providing quality service to dealers and assessees as well as to trade and industry.^[4]
