Derek Connolly (born c. 1976[1]) is an American screenwriter, best known as the writer of the 2012 film Safety Not Guaranteed, for which he won the Waldo Salt Screenwriting Award[2] and the Independent Spirit Award (Best First Screenplay).[3] As of 2012 he was reported to be working on a remake of the film Flight of the Navigator as well as writing an upcoming Pixar film with Teddy Newton.[4] Connolly was listed on Variety's Ten Screenwriters to Watch in 2012.[5] He also co-wrote Jurassic World with director Colin Trevorrow.[6] In August 2015, Connolly was hired to rewrite Kong: Skull Island for Universal Pictures and Legendary Pictures.[7]
Connolly attended Palmetto High School in Miami and NYU Film School.[8]
