Desamparados is the capital city of Desamparados Canton in the province of San José in Costa Rica. It is also the name of the distrito (district) that includes the city. The district of Desamparados covers an area of 3.03 km²,[2] and has a population of 31,654.
The suburban city lies at an elevation of 1,161 meters above sea level[2] on the southeastern edge of the national capital city of San José, 4.5 kilometers from the city center.
