Desi Beats

Desi Beats is a genre that developed in the late 1990s in UK. It is characterized by a tempo of between 80 and 140 beats per minute. The name Desi Beats evolved from Desi being the Sanskrit term 'desh', which stands for country and Beats from where western music was combined.

The music started from DJs performing in UK clubs and using samples from Hip-Hop, House, Dancehall and Breakbeats to strengthen and mix with music originally from India and surrounding south Asian countries.
