Devin Mahina (born January 6, 1989) is an American football tight end who is currently a free agent. He played college football at Brigham Young University. He signed as an undrafted free agent with the Washington Redskins in 2015.

College career

In 2010, Mahina earned letterman honors at Brigham Young as a Freshman. He saw action in 12 games and started in 5 of those games. He had 11 receptions for 118 yards, with his season best game coming at Utah, where he caught 2 passes for 32 yards. Also, had 2 catches for 20 yards against UTEP in the 2010 New Mexico Bowl.

During 2011, Mahina redshirtted due to a neck injury. In 2012, Mahina played in nine games. He caught eight passes for 128 yards and two touchdowns. His first collegiate career touchdown came at home against Hawaii, was a 12 yard reception. Mahina caught 2 passes for 24 yards and 1 touchdown against #10 ranked Oregon State. His career long came against San Diego State in the 2011 Poinsettia Bowl, was recorded as a 38 yard reception just shy of the endzone, but resulted in a field goal and change of momentum for the Cougars (they went on to win the game).

In 2013, Mahina played in 10 games, starting 1, and had 7 receptions for 64 yards. He caught two passes for 17 yards in their win over Georgia Tech, and notched career highs in receptions (4) and yards (40) against Boise State.

His best year came in 2014, as a senior. He recorded a career-best 244 receiving yards and 20 receptions to finish his career with 46 receptions for 554 yards and 5 touchdowns. He caught 3 touchdown passes and had at least 1 reception in 11 of the 13 games, he played in and started all 13 games. He totaled a career-high 54 receiving yards on 2 receptions in the 2014, inaugural, Miami Beach Bowl, including a career-long 41 yard reception. Mahina registered 40 yards on 4 catches to equal a career high for receptions in the win over Middle Tennessee State. Mahina was selected at the College Football Performance Awards National Tight End of the week 10/13 after scoring 2 touchdowns with 46 receiving yards on 4 catches in BYU's overtime defeat at Central Florida in Orlando. Prior to the start of the season, Mahina was named to Phil Steele's All-Independent Second Team, the College Sports Madness All-Independent Second Team, and the John Mackey Award Preseason Watch List. He received 2014 FBS All-Independent Team Honorable Mention. Mahina was also invited to and played in the 2015 NFLPA Collegiate Bowl postseason all-star game (2 catches, 20 yards), and the prestigious 2015 Senior Bowl postseason all-star game.

Professional career

Washington Redskins

After going undrafted in the 2015 NFL Draft, Mahina was signed by the Washington Redskins on May 2, 2015.[1] He was waived on August 31.[2]
