Dhasa
Dhasa is a small city and railway junction in Bhavnagar District of Gujarat. Geographycally there are two small towns, which are Dhasagam and Dhasa junction. Dhasa junction was one of the first railway junctions to be established in 1880 on Bhavnagar-Gondal State Railway, Metre Gauge line from Dhasa to Dhoraji.
It is situated at distance of 75 km from Bhavnagar, 45 km from Amreli and 100 km from Rajkot. Dhasa is an important point on S.H.25 Which connects Bhavnagar to Rajkot. The population is around 10,000. The main industries are Oil Mills and Cotton Ginning Mills.
Though Dhasa is an important industrial town in Bhavnagar district, the town lacks in terms of basic facilities in various sectors. Some of them are listed as below.
• Banking Sector: Inspite of being an industrial town, Dhasa has no proper banking facilities. There are 2 small bank branches one is State Bank of India and other is Dena Bank in Dhasa Jn. There is not a single bank in Dhasagam.
• Roads: The town has very poor planning of roads and houses. The roads which connects town to nearby cities are in poor condition. Even the streets of Dhasa still lacks RCC roads and are full of dust.
• Women Safety: The town has very poor night light system on roads. In the darkness of the night women are harassed by anti-social elements. Frequent women harassment cases have been reported on town.
• Transportation: Road: Though Dhasagam is busy point on S.H.25 there is no Bus Depot. Passengers still strand on the roads for bus, no matter how much cold, heat and rain is there.
Railway: Dhasa Jn is important railway Jn but there are very limited trains to Jn. Years old Dhasa-Jetalsar and Dhasa-Veraval meter gauge lines are still functioning and has not been converted to broad gauge. Dhasa and surrounding village has huge railway traffic but still there are no long direct trains to Ahmedabad, Rajkot, Vadodara, Surat and Mumbai.
• Solid Waste Management: There is no proper planning for daily Solid Waste. There are garbage piles nearly in every streets of the town.
• Sewage treatment and Underground drainage System: The town has not implemented Underground drainage system till date and household water flows on the streets of town. Eventually there is not Sewage treatment of malign water.
• Government Hospital: There is only a small Government Health center in Dhasa Jn, while no government hospital in Dhasagam even if having population of more than 10,000.
• Drug Trafficking and Alcohol Market: The town has big underground Alcohol and Drug Market, which continue to drain youths of the town and their families.
• Public Parks: There are no public parks for senior citizens and children of the town where they can go with family and spend some time.
• Sports: Though sport is very popular among the youth of town, there is no proper facility for any sport. Government body must encourage sports in youth of town as the town has ability to produce world class sports-persons.
