Dion Prestia
Dion Prestia (born 12 October 1992) is an Australian rules footballer who plays for the Gold Coast Football Club in the Australian Football League (AFL). Drafted by Gold Coast with the ninth pick in the 2010 National Draft, he made his debut in Gold Coast's first game, playing against Carlton in round two of the 2011 season.[1]
Early Life and Pre-AFL
Prestia grew up in Melbourne's inner suburbs, playing for the West Lalor Junior Football Club in the Northern Football League[2] before moving to the Greenvale Football Club in the Essendon District Football League.[3] He then played for the Calder Cannons in the TAC Cup in 2010.[4] He attended Assumption College, Kilmore.[5] In late 2010, Prestia was selected to represent Victoria Metro in the Under 18's championships. He started brightly, picking up 21 touches in the opening game, but an injury early in the second game ended his championship campaign prematurely.[6]
2011 season
Prestia was predicted to be drafted by Essendon with the 8th selection in the 2010 AFL Draft, but they selected Dyson Heppell, allowing Gold Coast to select him with the next selection.[7][8] He made his AFL debut in the Suns inaugural league game against the Blues in the 2011 season. Prestia averaged 16.5 disposals per game in his first season, and had a season-high 20 disposals against the Bulldogs in Round 3.
