Diphu Government College was established in the year 1964 in Diphu with the main aim of providing higher education in the backward Karbi Anglong District of Assam, India.
History
Distinguished local leaders of the time for founding like Chatrasing Teron, Chandra sing Teron, Dhaniram Rongpi, Gojendra Nath Goswami, Joysing Doloi, Sar Rongpi, P.K. Baruah were among the Diphu Government College founders. When the academic session started from July 1965, Prof. P.K. Bhuyan was the first principal of the college. Thus began a new venture in the field of higher education.
In 1967 it was taken over by the Government of Assam and since then the college has never looked back. Within a few years the college got its own building which provides accommodation for classrooms, offices, department staff rooms, auditorium, library, etc.
Facility
There are two girl's and one boy's hostel. There are 23 quarters for teachers and 8 quarters for non-teaching staff in addition to a full-furnished official residence for the principal. Over the years, the college made much progress in infrastructural development out of grants received from several sources like UGC, KAAC, Government of India, Government of Assam and MPLADS fund. The college house a beautiful botanical garden cum recreation park, one peace park, a state-of-the-art auditorium with all facilities, air-conditioned seminar hall, cultural museum etc.
The college has its own playground, canteen, post office and postal code, medical room, garden and an indoor game facility. it has one basketball playground.
