The Directorate General for Public Security (Generaldirektion für die öffentliche Sicherheit, "GDföS") is a department of the Austrian Federal Ministry of the Interior that oversees various departments responsible for public security. The department is overseen by the General Director for Public Security, who reports to and is appointed by the Austrian Federal Minister for the Interior.

The GDföS offices are located on Minoritenplatz in Vienna.

Organization

The legal basis for the General Directorate for Public Security is paragraph 6 of the Sicherheitspolizeigesetz ("Federal Security Police Act"). Several law enforcement agencies that are not part of the Federal Police are subordinated to the General Directorate:
