Discover Wisconsin
Discover Wisconsin is the nation's longest running tourism TV show in the U.S. The program is written, directed and produced in Madison, Wisconsin. Created in 1986 by Dick Rose and premiering in 1987, Discover Wisconsin highlights Wisconsin's popular and lesser-known tourist attractions. Discover Wisconsin TV (DW-TV) was the ultimate product, becoming the first public-private partnership under then-governor Tommy Thompson. It is broadcast to more than 480,000 viewers throughout the Midwest on a combination of network, cable, and satellite stations. Additionally, through the advent of satellite broadcasting, DW-TV is regularly viewed on cable stations all around the United States.
The program has won 20 National Telly Awards.[1] Discover Wisconsin has also been nominated for 8 Emmy nominations,[2] winning once in 2012 for its 25th Anniversary Special.
History
In 1986, Dick Rose created the idea of showcasing Wisconsin's many vacation spots on a television show dedicated to Wisconsin tourism. Discover Wisconsin Television was born in 1987, becoming the first public and private sector partnership under Governor Tommy Thompson's Administration.
Discover Wisconsin TV (DW-TV) reaches more than 480,000 viewers throughout the Midwest on a combination of network, cable and satellite stations. Additionally, through the advent of satellite broadcasting, DW-TV is regularly viewed on cable stations throughout the U.S.
Radio
Discover Wisconsin Radio was launched in 1993 as a companion to DW-TV and is broadcast statewide in Wisconsin and surrounding areas. Listeners tune into DW-Radio on more than 40 stations throughout this region, Monday through Friday, 52 weeks per year.
