Don Tobin is a Native from England. He is presently the Director Of Coaching at Pinellas County United (PCU) and is also a Coach with the National Training Center (NTC)

He oversees player and coaching development in all areas of the Pinellas County Soccer Club and Azalea Youth Soccer League for boys and girls from ages three through nineteen. Our mission is to accelerate the learning process and create a brand that is dynamic and to develop a culture of honesty, loyalty, integrity and values. He also serves as the Head Coach of the WPSL women’s team at Pinellas County United.

He was Assistant Coach/Technical Director, University of Tampa August 2007-August 2014

Profiled the characteristics of every position while assisting the head coach with daily practices, planning and implementation. Created the development plan for the smaller teams within the big team, which are known as the back four, midfield and strikers. Make individual development plans for each player identifying lifestyle and social components and also encompassing the four corners, technical, tactical, physical and psychological. Knowing the strengths and weaknesses of both the opposing teams and coaches by knowing what they are going to do before they do it. He was also a part of the 2007 NCAA Division II Women’s National Championship team, the first NCAA National Championship for the UT Women’s Soccer team.

Director of Coaching, Dunedin Stirling Soccer Club May 1995 - July 2014

He was always more commonly known as “Tobin” to the countless players he trained over the 19 years he was the DOC, and was always directly involved with the individual training and coaching of the youth players at Dunedin Stirling Soccer Club. Unlike many Directors of Coaching at other youth soccer clubs,he actively worked with all Competitive teams and players. He was able to adapt his training style to benefit all players, regardless of skill level, age or gender. As a coach and trainer, I had the opportunity to coach numerous players who went on to play at the college, professional, and even National Team Level. He also created the Tobin’s School of Soccer Science Academy Program.

Interim Assistant Coach, FC Tampa Bay Rowdies 2010 Season

During the last two home games of the 2010 season he served as the interim assistant coach. His responsibilities included conducting full training sessions and assessing the opponent to create a plan of play before match days.

Head Coach, Memphis Rogues – Men’s Professional League AISA 1989 - 1990

Assisted in all aspects of recruiting players to identify and evaluate if they would be a good fit for the team. Afternoons were spent in the office where I was responsible for organizing team travel, budgets, fundraising and press interviews for television and radio. He also secured sponsorships and was a guest speaker at many functions.

Career Highlights:

Signed with Eveton FC who had just won the English Premier League

· Reached the Football Association of Ireland final with the Sligo Rovers and was selected by the League of Ireland to play against the Saudi Arabia National Team.

· Won the league with the California Sunshine and was selected as a member of the American Soccer League first team as an All Star.

· Won the 1981 American Soccer League Championship Final with the Carolina Lightnin’ and was voted Most Valuable Player of the game scoring a goal and an assist. Quote from Rodney Marsh’s Book – PRICELESS “At half time I decided to make a substitution and brought on a guy called Mal Roche. When we took the field for the second half, the atmosphere couldn’t have been bettered, even in the theatre of dreams. With his first touch, Mal steered the ball to the far post of the New York goal where little Don Tobin was waiting to nod in the equalizer. When the crowd erupted, I knew it was our destiny to go on and win. The noise was decibels over anything I had heard before; or at least, that’s how it felt. In the end, it wasn’t our enthusiasm that gave us the victory; it was tactics. For months we had been working on corner kicks and towards the end of the game one of our set-pieces worked as a treat. Tobin, who had played brilliantly, whipped over a corner from the right.”

· Selected as a member of the American Soccer League All Star Team while playing for the Carolina Lightnin’. This accomplishment was never again achieved by a Professional Soccer Team and recently resulted in the 1981 winning team and players being inaugurated in to the famous North Carolina Soccer Hall of Fame.

· While playing for the Los Angeles Lazers he was selected as a member of the All Star Team in the Major Indoor Soccer League.

· Won four consecutive American Indoor Soccer Association Championships with the Canton Invaders. As captain of the team, he was voted to the American Indoor Soccer Association All Star Team and was voted Most Valuable Player of the entire league.

· Played for the Carolina Lightnin’ under the Leadership of Rodney Marsh and Bobby Moore, the former Captain of the England World Cup Winning Team - below is a quote from Rodney Marsh that was taken from his Book – PRICELESS “I got a former Everton player called Don Tobin who had a terrific left foot and a great engine.”
