Donald Shaw Ramsay (1919–1998) was a Scottish bagpiper.
Life
He was born in Torphichen in 1919.[1]
With his wife Elizabeth he had a daughter Morag.[2]

Musical influence
He has been credited with expanding the repertoire played by pipe bands, due the need for the Edinburgh police band to provide entertainment for an hour or more at a time, although he also expressed dissaproval of bands playing music that is not traditionally Scottish, in particular Breton music.[3][4]
He composed a number of tunes, among them the 3/4 march Schiehallion and the 6/8 marches and Mrs. Lily Christie and Angus MacKinnon.[1][5]
Recordings
Ramsay recorded a solo album, Pipe Major Donald Shaw Ramsay of The Edinburgh Police Pipe Band, in the 1950s.[6]
