Dorothy Hyuha

Dorothy Samali Hyuha is a Ugandan educator and politician. She is the Minister Without Portfolio in the Ugandan Cabinet. She is also the women's representative for Butaleja District in the Ugandan Parliament, a position she has held since 2006.

Background

She was born in Butaleja District on 4 July 1962.[1]

Education

Hyuha graduated in 1985 with a Bachelor of Science with a Diploma in Education from Makerere University. She then earned a Master of Education degree in 1995, also from Makerere University.[2]

Work experience

Hyuha was first elected to the Uganda Parliament in 1996 as a representative of Tororo District, a post she held until 2006. In 2006, after Butaleja District was carved out of Tororo District, she won the parliamentary seat of women's representative for Butalehja District on the National Resistance Movement (NRM) party ticket. She has held that position since. She was appointed to her cabinet post in February 2009.[3]

Personal details

She is a member of the NRM political party. She is married. She is of the Anglican faith. She is the chairperson of the Mothers' Union in Bunyole Archdeaconry in Bukedi Diocese, a post she has held since 2001. She has special interest in rural development, HIV/AIDS, women's empowerment, and gender issues.
