Douglas M. Leone (born 1957) is an American venture capitalist, a partner at Sequoia Capital since 1993.[2] His focus is on internet, software and communication investments. He was ranked #4 on Forbes Magazine's Midas List in 2013.[3] Forbes also named Leone to their list of the top 10 venture capitalists in the United States in 2001.[4] Leone also led the international expansion of Sequoia Capital in China and India.[5]
Early life
He emigrated from Italy with his family aged 11, and they settled in Mount Vernon, New York.[6]
He holds an MS in Industrial Engineering from Columbia University, and an MS in Management from the MIT Sloan School of Management. Leone earned a BS in Mechanical Engineering from Cornell University in 1979.
Career
Leone joined Sequoia Capital in 1988. Prior to 1988, he worked at Sun Microsystems, Hewlett-Packard, and Prime Computer in sales and sales management positions. Leone is also a former Trustee of Menlo School, an independent, coeducational college preparatory day school for grades 6–12.
Leone currently sits on the board of directors for PlanGrid,[7] Birst, CafePress.com, Hayneedle, Medallia, MedExpress, RingCentral, ServiceNow and Zirmed.[8] His notable past partner companies include Arbor/Hyperion, Aruba, Meraki, Netezza and Rackspace among others.[8]
Personal life
Leone is married to Patti Leone and the father of four children.
