Dry grassland

Semi-dry grassland (Mesobromion erecti) on a south-facing muschelkalk hillside in the Rhön Mountains, with rich communities of pasqueflower

Dry grasslands are special biotopes that grow on dry, nutrient-poor locations. In the calcareous grasslands characterised by dry conditions, low vegetation in the form of herbaceous plants and subshrubs grow. Typical for such grasslands are types of steppe vegetation, but mountain species and orchids are also common.
