The Tour

The bus used is a specially customised double-decker bus, coloured purple, with a ghost themed exterior. The Victorian style interior is decorated to resemble a haunted house on wheels with blood red seats and velvet curtains on the top deck to introduce the atmosphere to follow. The tour usually runs in the evening time and includes two stops where passengers leave the bus behind and visit locations where ghosts have allegedly been seen.[1]

Christchurch Crypt

The tour has earned over 200 'Excellent' reviews from passengers on Trip Advisor. It is a popular activity for groups and just under half of passengers that take the tour are Irish.

The bus leaves from outside Dublin Bus headquarters (59 Upper O'Connell Street) and travels towards Trinity College. The tour guide, a professional actor, recounts Bram Stokers creation of his novel Dracula, and other stories of hauntings throughout the city as well as surgeons paying body snatchers for fresh corpses, such as Dr. Clossey's school of anatomy.[2]

The Clossey story leads into the trip to St. James' graveyard. Further tales of hauntings are recounted, along with more detail about grave-robbers,before asking for a volunteer to simulate a grave robbing.[3] The next stop off on board the tour is in the Crypt of Christchurch Cathedral, a historical place of Medieval torture.

Actors on board include; Brent Hearne (Fair City, the Clinic & The Tudors), Gary Egan(Love/Hate), Declan Mills (previously acted alongside George Clooney and Matt Damon) and Art Kearns (Fair City & the Tudors). Alongside a sinister driver the actors put passengers at their unease.

The tour ends on O'Connell Street.
