Dublin Transportation Office
The Dublin Transportation Office (DTO) was a government agency, formed in 1996, which provides transport and land use advice to organisations operating in the Greater Dublin Area. It had relatively limited powers and was not a full transport authority. However the DTO was largely responsible for the Quality Bus Corridor initiative which has had some success in promoting use of buses in Dublin.
A full-fledged transport authority for Dublin had been promised by the Irish Government, to be known as the Dublin Transport Authority (DTA). This body was to begin its work on January 1, 2009 . However, plans for the DTA were revised in the light of the budget shortfall, and the government replaced it with a National Transport Authority, which came into being on 1 December 2009. The DTO was dissolved on that date.
