Dulcimer
A dulcimer is a kind of stringed musical instrument. Among its types are:
- Hammered dulcimer, free-standing, most frequently but not without exception, trapezoidal, with many horizontal strings struck by handheld "hammers" The instrument is very frequently occurring in many cultures. Each country has its own name for the instrument and many countries have a different tuning layout.
- Fretted, 3 or 4 strings generally played on the lap by strumming, i.e.
- Appalachian dulcimer.
- Typical Appalachian dulcimer
- Banjo dulcimer, with banjo-like resonating membrane
- Resonator dulcimer, with inset conical resonator
Other:
- Bowed dulcimer, teardrop-shaped and played upright with a bow
- Electric dulcimer
