Duvall is a pop rock band with Christian-oriented lyrics. They were formed in August 2001, including members of the Smoking Popes, who had disbanded in 1998. Founding members were Josh Caterer, Tom Daily, and Mike Felumlee. They recorded their first demos that same month.
These songs were recorded at the first session:
- "Standing at the Door"
- "Time Is Gone"
- "Falling into You"
- "Jesus Never Leaves Me"
History
Departure of Tom Daily
After recording these demos, Tom left the band and was replaced by John Sewell. At their first show, on October 19, 2001, Eli Caterer of the Smoking Popes joined the band as a guest and later joined as a permanent member.
On December 2, 2001, Duvall opened for Tenacious D and Weezer in Madison, WI. They were filling in for Jimmy Eat World, the tour's usual opener, due to them having to do a radio show in Florida.
During 2002, the band opened for Dashboard Confessional on tour. They are also featured on Bad Scene, Everyone's Fault, a tribute album to the band Jawbreaker, covering the song Busy.
Departure of Mike Felumlee and Eli Caterer
In August 2002, Mike and John left the band. Eli took over on bass and the band continued as a trio.
The band released the full length "Volume & Density" on November 18, 2003 on Asian Man Records. The tracklist included two of the original four demos, along with ten other songs.
In the summer of 2005, Eli left the band. In January 2006, Josh posted on the band website that Duvall was "taking a break" while the newly reunited Smoking Popes toured and that they would tour in the summer.
Their song "I'll Be Around" was included as a sample on several models of RCA MP3 players to promote eMusic.
