Elias Avery Lowe

Elias Avery Lowe ( Kalvarija, Russian imperial 15 October 1879 8 August 1969) was an American palaeographer. His wife, whom he married in 1911, was the noted translator H. T. Lowe-Porter.

Among the Lowes' grandchildren was British artist Charlotte Johnson Wahl, and among Wahl's children is journalist and politician Boris Johnson, Mayor of London.[1]

Career

Lowe graduated from Cornell University in 1902 and received his doctorate in 1908 at the University of Munich under the supervision of Ludwig Traube.

His main works are the Codices Latini Antiquiores.
