Chris Schenkel was removed from college football broadcasts altogether that season and relegated to the Pro Bowlers Tour for the last 16 years of his career at ABC with the exception of 2 games in 1988.
Also after 5 seasons or so of essentially alternating the top analyst position, Frank Broyles was named the number one analyst on all but 2 games that season, while Ara Parseghian was demoted to the number 2 team most weeks with Al Michaels but missed the last 3 weeks or so of the regular season due to a kidney ailment.
