History

Eastern Shore Memorial Hospital was built to serve the easternmost area of coastal Halifax County running from East Ship Harbour to Marie Joseph. The architect was Leslie R. Fairn. Construction started in 1947 and the hospital opened on May 24, 1949. Donations from the community helped in its completion.[2]

In 1983 a new wing was added to the hospital and while the old wing was converted to a nursing home called Duncan MacMillan Nursing Home.[3] The new wing is called the Eastern Shore Memorial Hospital.

In 2011, Duncan MacMillan Nursing Home was torn down and replaced by Harbourview Lodge.
