Ed Byrne (musician)
Ed Byrne is a trombonist, composer, bandleader, author, educator[1] and is currently the leader of Ed Byrne's Latin Jazz Evolution.[2]
Career
Ed worked for 15+ years on the New York City scene as a soloist with many of the world’s greatest performing artists. Ed also performed, composed, and arranged numerous recordings and toured the Americas, France, Germany and Sweden. Ed was nominated "Best Trombone Soloist" by Latin New York magazine; his Fenway Funk was nominated for a Grammy Award; Eddie Palmieri’s Latin jazz album, Unfinished Masterpiece (lead trombone) won the Grammy. A DMA in Jazz Studies from NEC, Dr. Byrne has been on the faculties of Berklee College and elsewhere, and has published 17 texts, Linear Jazz Improvisation Method, sold world-wide.www.byrnejazz.com On August 20, 2012, Ed Byrne's Latin Jazz Evolution released its first CD, entitled Conquistador, on Blue Truffle Records.[3]
Awards
Ed is a Doctor of Musical Arts in Jazz Studies from the New England Conservatory. Nominated “Best Trombone Soloist” by Latin New York magazine, Ed's composition Fenway Funk was nominated for a Grammy Award. Eddie Palmieri’s album, Unfinished Masterpiece, on which Ed played lead trombone, won a Grammy Award. LJE co-leader Carlos Carlitos Clinton, from Brooklyn, NY, began his musical journey as a kid playing trombone in the public schools, after being exposed to the music of such Latin greats as Ray Barreto, the Lebron Brothers, and Willie Colon; his passion soon turned to bongos and conga drums. Carlos eventually moved to Puerto Rico to perform with Maldades, his brother Art’s band, along with Eddie Santiago and Willie Gonzalez, and he later played with Qiuque, Patato Valdez, Eladio Perez, Lester Ojeda, and many other Latin giants.[4]
