Edgar von Gierke

Edgar Otto Conrad von Gierke (9 February 1877, Breslau – 21 October 1945) was a German doctor, who specialised in glycogen synthesis. This research led him to the discovery of glycogen synthesis type I in 1929.


He married Julie Brown in 1912 and fathered 4 children.

Glycogen storage disease type I is named for him, commonly known as Von Gierke disease.
