Edo no Kiba (牙 エドノキバ Edonokiba) is a Super Famicom cyberpunk action video game intended for a Japanese audience. It is Tokyo in the year 2050 where terrorists are running wild in the streets, and only one armored police officer is fast enough to hunt them down.[1]

Gameplay

An unintentional crossover with Contra is happening in this screenshot.

The player attacks by slashing to the right with his energy sword.[1] He can also hold his sword defensively to deflect some bullets.[1]

At the beginning of the game, the player starts with 99% as his health rating and can have as many as nine continues.[3] If the player even gets lightly touched by an enemy, he gets electrocuted and loses 10% of his health. Some weapons (like the flamethrower) causes the player to automatically lose a life; acting as an "instant death" device. Players can throw the sword around like a boomerang by holding the forward button and releasing the attack button.[1] Environments range from city streets to sewers and a flying battleship.[1] Each level ends with a boss fight against an enemy that can withstand many attacks.[1] Bosses have their own health bar (usually starting at 18000 hit points).[3]

There are bizarre cameos in this game by a Bill Rizer lookalike,[4] a robot that resembles the T-1000 from Terminator 2: Judgment Day,[4] and an enemy that slightly resembles the Buddha.[4] A mission even asks player to avert nuclear war by destroying the ICBMs while they're in flight to their destination.[4]
