Edward Allcard
Edward C. Allcard (born 31 October 1914) is an English naval architect, marine surveyor, yachtsman and author.[1] He was born in Chertsey, Surrey.[2]
Biography
Allcard was educated at Eton College.[1][3] In 1949 he crossed the Atlantic ocean single-handed, in 81 days.[1] He was the first man in history to sail the Atlantic solo in both directions.[4] In 1951, leaving the Azores, he found a 23-year-old female stowaway on his yawl, Temptress.[1] He appeared as a "castaway" on the BBC Radio programme Desert Island Discs on 26 July 1955.[5] Allcard later moved to Malta. In October 2014 he celebrated his 100th birthday at his home in La Massana, Andorra.[6]
