Edward Azar

Edward Azar (1938 in Lebanon 1991) was a professor of government and politics. He studied International Relations at the graduate level at Stanford University where he got his Ph.D. He taught at the University of North Carolina, Michigan State University and San Francisco State University. Azar developed the theory of protracted social conflict. He was head of the Centre for International Development and Conflict Management at the University of Maryland, College Park from 1981 to 1990.

He died of cancer in 1991 at the age of 53.
