Elgin Area School District U46, often referred to as "U-46", is a unit school district headquartered in Elgin, Kane County, Illinois.[1] Covering 90 square miles (230 km2), the district serves portions of eleven communities in the northwest suburbs of Chicago in Cook, DuPage and Kane Counties.[1] School District U-46 serves over 40,000 children in grades preK-12. The district ranks as the second largest in Illinois with forty elementary schools, eight middle schools and five high schools.[1]

Eastview Middle School link 1075 58 Donald Donner The school opened as a junior high school in 1970. In 1982 its role changed to be an elementary school before closing in 1992. During the next four years, it served as a storage house for U-46. In 1996, it reopened as a middle school. Most students transfer to Bartlett High School although some, from Bartlett Elementary School, transfer to South Elgin High School. This school features the SWAS program. Tefft Middle School link 851 Lavonne Smiley Situated in the village of Streamwood. Jonathan Tefft, along with his family, was able to provide dairy products to the Hanover Township and Elgin Township, as well as Chicago, due to their farming experience. Recognizing that the Tefft family represented a link in the history of Elgin and Hanover Townships, just as School District U-46 provides a common bond today, the Board of Education decided upon the name "Tefft" for Hanover Township's first junior high school. Some students, those attending Heritage and Parkwood Elementary Schools, transfer to Streamwood High School. Students attending Laurel Hill Elementary School may transfer to either Streamwood or Bartlett High School. This school features the gifted program and Hard of Hearing (HOH) programs.
