Elgin High School is a secondary school situated on High School Drive Elgin, Moray, Scotland.
The School
Elgin High School is one of two secondary schools in Elgin, the other being Elgin Academy.[1] Elgin High caters for pupils in S1-6 from across a range of backgrounds and abilities. The House System consists of Eagles, Falcons, Ospreys and Kestrel. Elgin High's catchment area traditionally lies to the south of the railway line, encompassing New Elgin and outlying villages. The main feeder primary schools are Greenwards, Mosstowie and New Elgin. A wing of the school, Kestrel House, was opened in 1996 and caters for pupils with profound and complex learning difficulties. Elgin High School maintains strong links with the local community and is often involved in fundraising and charity events. The school was inspected successfully by HMI (Education Scotland) in 2011.
The Building
The school is located on the edge of New Elgin and enjoys a semi-rural setting. The main building is built on three levels and consists of X, Y and Z floors. Facilities include a library, drama studio, large games hall and spacious canteen area which is often used for assemblies as well as social events. In September 2012, it was confirmed by the Scottish Government that the current school building will be replaced with a new school to be built on the existing site. Preliminary work for the new building has taken place with a planned completion date of 2017.
