Elly Varrenti is an Australian television and theatre actress, singer, teacher, broadcaster and writer. During her acting career, she is probably most well known for her role on Heartbreak High in 1994 as Irini Poulos. She has also had a recurring role in the third season of Blue Heelers, as well as a guest role in its thirteenth and final season. She also had a recurring role on MDA.

As well as her acting, Varrenti has had a variety of careers across the arts world for the past twenty-five years. Originally training as an actress and singer in the early 1980s she went on to perform extensively with most of Melbourne’s major and independent theatre companies and for television and radio.

In the mid 1990s she moved into arts radio broadcasting and theatre reviewing and has continued to work as a freelance broadcaster for ABC Radio. She is well known for her regular monologues and columns, where she engages in a number of issues including, parenting, family, relationships, women’s issues, education and the arts.

As a freelance writer Varrenti is published in The Age newspaper, The Sydney Morning Herald, the street press, parenting magazines and The Melbourne Times.

Memoirs

In 2007 Varrenti was signed with Penguin Books who have published her memoir called, This Is Not My Beautiful Life.
