Elsfjord is a village and former municipality in Nordland county, Norway. It is located around the Elsfjorden in the northern part of the present-day municipality of Vefsn. The main villages in the municipality were Elsfjord and Drevvassbygda.[2] The village of Elsfjord is located at the end of the fjord, and it is the location of the local church, Elsfjord Church.

History

The municipality of Elsfjord was established on 1 July 1929 when it was separated from the large municipality of Hemnes. At that time, Elsfjord had a population of 765. On 1 January 1962, it was merged with the municipalities of Drevja, Vefsn, and the town of Mosjøen) to form a new, larger municipality of Vefsn. Prior to the merger, Elsfjord had a population of 920.[3]
