Elton Steers Mangoma is a former Zimbabwe Minister of Economic Planning and Investment Promotion.[1] He was a Member of House of Assembly for Makoni North (MDC-T).
Career
A senior official in Prime Minister Morgan Tsvangirai's Movement for Democratic Change party, Mangoma was the party's founding member in 1999. He was one of the country's first few black Chartered Accountants. Before launching his political career, he established himself as an astute manager with a lot of companies including Deloitte& Touche and Delta Corporation.
Arrest
On 10 March 2011 Mangoma was arrested on charges of corruption, which party leader Tsvangirai concluded were politically motivated. The arrest was said to be in connection with a fuel deal Mangoma made in December with a little-known South African company.
However it is widely felt that the arrest was a farce and another intimidation ploy from the Mugabe regime. On 7 March 2014, the MDC national council suspended him from the party in what his sympathisers viewed as a purge of dissenting voices in the MDC T.
