Emel Sayın is a Turkish singer and movie actress.

Life

She was born in Şarkışla district of Sivas Province on 20 November 1945, to an Albanian father from Skopje, and a mother from Mardin.[1] Her parents moved to various cities and she had to complete her primary and secondary education in cities like Kayseri, Konya and Edirne. Finally she graduated from the Çapa Teachers' College in İstanbul. However by then, she had already chosen her music career.[2]

Emel Sayın married three times. Her first marriage was between 1966-1979, second was between 1979-1981 and the third was between 1986-1999.

Music career

After serving three years in Istanbul Municipal Conservatory she got on the stage in 1962 in Ankara while she was only 17. Next year she became a singer of Turkish Radio and Television Corporation (TRT) for seven years. She then moved to İstanbul to sing in the music halls. She also created music albums. Her genre was Turkish classical music Later she began playing in the cinema and television films.

In 1998 she received the title state artist.
