While at school, she appeared in a regular photo story for teen magazine 'Jackie'. She was originally planning to study at St Andrew's University, but after achieving better-than-expected A'Level results, she took a year out and re-applied to Wadham College, Oxford University, where she won a place to study English Literature. Married since September 2001, Hamilton's husband is the actor Tristan Gemmill, best known for playing Adam Trueman in BBC One's long-running medical drama series Casualty.[2] The couple have a son together and Gemmill announced on Twitter that his wife had given birth to a girl some time in September 2010.[3]
