Emily Hill

Emily Hill (5 September 1847 – 27 August 1930) was a New Zealand teacher, temperance worker and suffragist.

She was born on 5 September 1847 as Emily Knowles. She immigrated to Christchurch in 1873 with her husband Henry Hill, who had proposed to her less than a month before their departure for New Zealand.[1] Between 1875 and 1878, he was headmaster at Christchurch East School[2] and she was in charge of the infants' department.[1] They moved to Napier, where she became prominent in women's suffrage.[1]
