Empire Resorts is a company that owns the Monticello Raceway racino in the Catskill Mountains 90 miles (140 km) from New York City.
Headquartered in Monticello, New York, Empire is 78.6% owned by Kien Huat Realty Sdn Bhd of Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.[1]
History
Empire Resorts is a NASDAQ Global Market company. The company's stock is traded under the ticker symbol "NYNY." Its subsidiary, Monticello Raceway Management, Inc., owns and operates the Monticello Casino & Raceway in Monticello, New York. The 230-acre (93 ha) property, located approximately 90 miles northwest of New York City, includes a gaming and entertainment complex that features over 1,000 video lottery terminal (VLT) slot machines,[2] electronic table games, and one of the nation's largest all-weather harness horse racing tracks. The casino features many of the same slot machine names found in the casinos of Atlantic City and Las Vegas, and offers live entertainment and dining.
Chronology
- 1958: Monticello Raceway began operations on its lightning-fast half-mile track June 27, 1958.
- 2001: New York State passes legislation allowing race tracks to host electronic slot machines.
- 2003: The company joins Nasdaq via a reverse merger under the Empire Resorts, Inc. name and ticker symbol "NYNY."
- 2004: The company receives regulatory approval to open a casino at the Monticello Raceway site. A $34 million renovation is completed in six months, and the new Monticello Casino & Raceway is opened on June 30.
