Energiekontor is one of the first European development and operating companies for wind energy projects.

The company has built 84 wind farms with a total of 495 wind turbines. The total capacity is around 610 MW, the investment volume of more than 922 million euros. A part of these wind farms are operated for the company itself and for customers.

In 1990 the company was founded by Bodo Wilkens and Günter Lammers in Bremerhaven. Since 2003, the founders are members of the supervisory board.

The first two wind farms were built in 1994, in Misselwarden and Wremen.

Subsidiaries were established in Portugal and in Greece in 1995. In 1999, the company expanded into the UK. 200 MW were installed until the year 2000. In the same year the shareholder's company went public.

In 2004 the permit was given for the offshore windfarm Borkum Riffgrund West by the Federal Maritime and Hydrographic Agency. The rights for this projekt were sold to DONG Energy in 2011.[1]

The wind farm Forrest Moor in the UK was taken as the fourth foreign location into operation in March 2005. This wind farm is currently operated by the company.
