Enzo Alan Zidane Fernández (IPA: [ˈɛntso aˈlɑ̃ zidan ferˈnandeθ]; born 24 March 1995), better known as Enzo, is a French-Spanish footballer. He was born in France and attained Spanish citizenship in 2006. He plays for Real Madrid Castilla as a midfielder. He is the oldest son of Zinedine Zidane.

Club career

Real Madrid

Since 2004, Enzo has played for the youth academy of Real Madrid. On 6 September 2011, he was invited by José Mourinho to train with the club's first team.[1][2]

On 5 August 2013, Enzo was promoted to Juvenil 'A' team.[3]

On 16 November 2014, Enzo made his debut for Real Madrid Castilla, the B-team, as a substitute in a 21 win over UB Conquense in Segunda División B.[4]

On 12 August 2015, Enzo was named one of the vice-captains of Castilla.[5] He scored his first senior goal ten days later in the first game of the 2015–16 season, a 5–1 home routing of CD Ebro.[6]

On 29 October, Enzo was promoted to train regularly with the first team.[7]

International career

Enzo is eligible to play for France or Spain,[8][9] as well as Algeria, where his paternal grandparents are from.[10][11] In 2010, Zinedine Zidane stated that he is relaxed about whether his son chooses to play for Spain or France at senior international level.[12][13][14]

Personal life

He is the oldest son of Zinedine Zidane and Véronique Fernández, and is known as Enzo Fernández.[15]

Enzo was named after former Uruguayan star Enzo Francescoli. He has three younger brothers, Luca, Theo, and Elyaz playing at the Real Madrid youth academy.[16][17][18]
