Erica Fernandes is an Indian film actress who has appeared in Kannada, Hindi, Tamil and Telugu language films. Prior to her film career, she took part in the beauty pageant Miss India 2012, finishing in the top ten.[1]
Early career
Erica Fernandes was born in Mangalore in a konkani family and brought up in Mumbai, and her parents, Ralph Fernandes, a model and interior designer, and Lavina,[2] had originated from Mangalore, Karnataka. She did her schooling from Holy Cross High School and completed her college from SIES College of Arts, Science, and Commerce, Sion. For further studies, she pursued her Bachelors in Arts from St. Andrew's College, Mumbai but dropped out to pursue her modelling career.[1] Since 2010, she has taken part in pageants and notably won Pantaloons Femina Miss Maharashtra 2011 amongst other titles.[3][4]
Career
Erica auditioned to play the lead role in S. J. Surya's Isai but was eventually not picked for the venture. She subsequently was selected to play the lead role in the bilingual Virattu / Dega instead, featuring alongside newcomer Sujiv, son of the director Kumar.[5]
Director Sasi had seen pictures of Erica at Meera Kathiravan’s office, whom she was shooting another film with, when he was casting for Ainthu Ainthu Ainthu. Sasi offered her a role of a software engineer in the film alongside Bharath, who plays her love interest. Due to the delay of her other films, Ainthu Ainthu Ainthu became her first release. In 2014, she made her debut in Kannada with the film Ninnindale featuring alongside Puneet Rajkumar, which was followed by her debut Hindi film Babloo Happy Hai, directed by Nila Madhab Panda.[6] In February 2014, Virattu eventually released. Its Telugu version however was pushed to late 2014 and Galipatam became her first Telugu release. The film received decent reviews from critics,[7] who also noted that Erica "do(es) a good job" [8] and "shows maturity in her acting".[9]
Her film with Kathiravan, Vizhithiru is likely to release in 2014 and sees her feature amongst an ensemble cast including Krishna, Venkat Prabhu and Sara Arjun. She is currently busy with the Kannada project, Buguri starring Ganesh.[10]
