Erwin "Jimmy" Hoffer (born 14 April 1987) is an Austrian football striker who currently plays for Karlsruher SC in the 2. Bundesliga. He also plays for the Austrian national team.[1]

Club career

Hoffer started his professional career at 17 with VfB Admira Wacker Mödling where he played from 2004 to 2006 in the first team.

Rapid Wien

After a two years spell, he moved to Rapid Wien where he was a replacement for Muhammet Akagündüz, who left for Kayserispor. In his first season, Hoffer made 21 appearance and scored four. He won the Austrian Football Bundesliga title with Rapid in the 2007–08 season and scored a hat-trick in their 7–0 victory against Red Bull Salzburg.

Napoli

On 28 July 2009, Napoli have signed the striker on a five-year deal, for €5 million.[2][3][4] He scored his first goal with the partenopei on 16 August 2009 in the Coppa Italia match Napoli-Salernitana (3–0).[5]

1. FC Kaiserslautern

After making eight appearances and scoring none, Hoffer made it clear he was unhappy with the lack of playing time he endured at Napoli and eventually joined German side 1. FC Kaiserslautern on loan. The deal did not include a buy option. Following his move to Kaiserslautern, Hoffer hoped he could have more of an impact in Germany.[6] Hoffer made his debut for the club in a cup match against VfL Osnabrück and his scored a brace in a 2–2 draw against Hoffenheim on 18 September 2010. Since scoring his first goal, Hoffer played well and made 24 appearances, scoring five times.

Loan spell at Frankfurt

His next loan move was in the 2011–12 season to another German side, Eintracht Frankfurt who had been relegated to 2. Fußball-Bundesliga on a season-long loan, view to a permanent move.[7] After making 30 appearances and scoring nine with the club promoted, Hoffer returned to Napoli after the club did not take up a permanent move for Hoffer and instead the loan move to Eintracht Frankfurt was renewed for another season for the 2012–13 season.[8]

Fortuna Düsseldorf

On 21 August 2013, Hoffer officially transferred to Fortuna Düsseldorf on a two-year deal.[9]

International career

During the U-20 World Cup in Canada, Hoffer shaved the name "Jimmy" into one side of his head after receiving that nickname from a coach.[10] The nickname is a reference to Jimmy Hoffa.[10]

He was part of the Austrian squad that played at Euro 2008,[11] a competition which Austria co-hosted along with Switzerland. The only match that Hoffer started in was their last group match against Germany in Vienna.

On 1 April 2009, Hoffer scored two goals for Austria in a 2–1 win over Romania in a Qualification match for the 2010 FIFA World Cup.
