explore is a Canadian publication focusing on outdoor lifestyle content. The magazine is published four times a year by My Passion Media.

Each issue highlights travel adventures to remote corners of Canada and beyond. The magazine also features gear and events across the country.

History

explore was founded in 1981, and in 1998 won the Magazine of the Year award at the Western Magazine Awards. Since 2001, the magazine has been nominated for 175 National Magazine Awards, winning 25 Gold awards and 29 Silver awards. In 2006, to celebrate its 25th anniversary, the magazine published Way Out There, an anthology of some of the best writing to appear in the publication.

In the fall of 2005, explore was the first glossy magazine in North America to publish on Ancient Forest Friendly, Forest Stewardship Council-certified, 100% post-consumer recycled paper.

In the summer of 2012, explore was sold to OP Publishing by Cottage Life Media Inc. in exchange for OP Publishing's Cottage magazine. David Webb, formerly the editor of Western Sportsman and The Outdoor Edge magazines, became editor in November of 2012. In November 2013, My Passion Media acquired Explore Magazine alongside InfoBarrel and Canadian Traveller. In April 2014 ExploreTheUSA.com, Explore Magazine's sister publication was launched.

Website

In 2012, explore-mag.com was redesigned to better serve users with more relevant information in a cleaner and easier to use format. It is updated five times weekly, and includes blogs from Kevin Callan (The Happy Camper), gear reviews, travel destinations and more. Explore's web site was once again updated in 2014 with a new visually enhanced experience.
