Fédération Cynologique Internationale Groups

The Fédération Cynologique Internationale has a 10 Group System, which is in use in all of its 86 member countries. All of these groups have breeds with a common original purpose in.

10 Group System

The FCI's 10 Group System is unique to the FCI. They all contain dogs that were bred for a specific purpose; more specific than other Kennel Clubs. These groups are a lot more broken down than other English-speaking Kennel Clubs. This is the hierarchy:

  1. Sheepdogs and Cattle Dogs
  2. Pinschers and Schnauzers, Molossoids and Swiss Mountain Dogs
  3. Terriers
  4. Dachshunds
  5. Spitz and Primitive Types
  6. Scenthounds
  7. Pointers and Setters
  8. Retrievers, Flushing Dogs and Water Dogs
  9. Companion and Toy Dogs
  10. Sighthounds
