The Faculty of Business Studies was established when the Vavuniya Campus of the University of Jaffna was created in April 1997.Introduction The University of Jaffna was first established in 1974 as Jaffna Campus of the University of Ceylon, offering courses in Science and Humanities. In 1979 with the implementation of University Act No 16 of 1978, it had become an independent and autonomous university as the University of Jaffna. A culture that has been nurtured and shaped by the influence of Vanniyas, came from India. Vavuniya district has ties even with the Paduvankarai region that had extended to the southernmost parts of the North Eastern Province – an indication of how Vavuniya people had contributed to the rich culture of the Tamil speaking society of Sri Lanka.
