FM 1847 flooded following Hurricane Dolly in July 2008
FM 1847 was originally designated in 1951 from what is currently FM 510 southward 4.1 miles to SH 100 in Los Fresnos, Texas. The next year it was extended 10.7 miles (17.2 km) south to SH 48. In 1963 it was extended another 5.6 miles (9.0 km) northward, with another extension northward to Arroyo Colorado in 1967. This extension was transferred from a portion of FM 2358, which was cancelled. This is its current extent, noting that all highway south of F.M. 3248 in Brownsville was technically converted to an Urban Road in 1995.
