Fatih Ozmen is the owner of Sierra Nevada Corporation (SNC) and CEO.[3] As Sierra Nevada Corporation’s sole owners,[3] Fatih Ozmen and his wife, Eren Ozmen, run one of America’s Fastest-Growing Private Companies.[4] The company is headquartered in Sparks, Nevada.
Early Life and Education
Born in Turkey,[5] the former Turkish National Cycling Champion rode alongside top Turkish cyclists throughout the 1970s in his teenage years.[6] Fatih Ozmen started at Sierra Nevada Corporation as an Engineering intern in 1981 with his M.S. Degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Nevada, Reno (UNR)[6]. With a Master’s thesis on navigation and landing systems, Fatih Ozmen was able to take part in the development of numerous systems and management of several key programs during his years at the Sierra Nevada Corporation. In 1994, Fatih Ozmen and his wife Eren Ozmen acquired the company.[7]
Career
Under the ownership of Fatih Ozmen, Sierra Nevada Corporation has completed 19 strategic acquisitions[8] expanding Sierra Nevada Corporation to 33 locations in 18 U.S. states, England, Germany and Turkey.[9] Sierra Nevada Corporation has grown to include a workforce of nearly 3,000 personnel - most of whom are scientists, engineers, or have technical backgrounds.[9] The company is ranked one of the top performing Federal Contractors in the United States.[10]
In 2008, Sierra Nevada Corporation acquired MicroSat Systems, Inc (January 2008)[11] and SpaceDev, Inc. (December 2008).[12] The acquisitions pushed SNC into the space and aeronautics industries. The company’s latest project is the Dream Chaser® spacecraft, a commercial spacecraft to be launched in November 2016.[13] NASA has awarded Sierra Nevada Corporation approximately $385 million toward the spacecraft’s development under its Commercial Crew Integrated Capability (CCiCap) initiative.[13] To date, the Dream Chaser has met a number of milestones, including its first free flight at Edwards Air Force Base on October 26, 2013.[14]
In 2014, Fatih and wife Eren made the largest gift in college history to the University of Nevada, Reno’s College of Business for the creation of a permanent center supporting entrepreneurial programs in areas such as science, engineering and journalism. According to Nevada Governor Brian Sandoval , the “Ozmen Center” will aid I the state’s economic development efforts. [15]

Awards and Recognition
Fatih Ozmen and Eren Ozmen have been recognized a number of times for their leadership at the Sierra Nevada Organization:
- In 2014, Fast Company Magazine named Sierra Nevada Corporation (SNC) in the “World's Top 10 Most Innovative Companies in Space".[16]
- Inc. Magazine recognized Sierra Nevada Corporation (SNC) among the U.S. Top 10 Nation's Fastest Growing Private Companies, "Revenue Growth for $Billion" in 2011.[16]
- Sierra Nevada Corporation (SNC) was Named Nevada’s 2014 "Aerospace Company of the Year" by Nevada’s Center for Entrepreneurship and Technology (NCET).[17]
- In 2012 Eren Ozmen and Fatih Ozmen were named "Aviation Entrepreneurs of the Year"[18] and were inducted as permanent "Living Legends of Aviation" in 2013 in Beverly Hills, CA.[19]
- Eren Ozmen and Fatih Ozmen were recognized among the Top 10 Most Influential Turkish-Americans by TurkOfAmerica in 2014.[20]
- Fatih Ozmen was awarded the “Ellis Island Medal of Honor” by the National Ethnic Coalition of Organizations’ (NECO) in 2014.[21]
- Sierra Nevada Corporation (SNC) was ranked "Top Woman-Owned Firms" for excellence in using innovative information technology solutions - GCN in 2005[22] and 2006.[23]
- In 2009, Fatih Ozmen received the UNR College of Engineering’s “James G. Scrugham Medal”.[24]
- Former Governor of Nevada, Kenny Guinn recognized SNC as Nevada’s "Distinguished Business of the Year" in 2001.[25]
