Faying surface

Faying surfaces are surfaces where parts are joined together with adhesion or welding.[1][2]

Faying surfaces also include those surfaces that have been prepared, typically by grinding or lathework, for connecting to other surfaces with bolts or rivets as well as adhesives or welding. An example would be steel pipe flanges.
